If you get a
chance to attend a Luau on Kauai, make sure it's at Smith's Tropical Paradise.

up to the Fern Grotto earlier in the day, makes it a truly enjoyable afternoon

The Gardens open at 5:00 pm allowing you to stroll through the magnificent grounds. You may purchase a tram token that gets you on board a narrated tour of the grounds at 5:30. The grounds boast over 20 types of exotic fruit trees, among the other native plants. You'll be sharing the grounds with exotic peacocks and singing tree ducks! Daytime walking or tram tours are available between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm. At 6:00 pm, the Imu Ceremony begins. Your dinner has been cooking all day in the underground oven. Watch as it is ceremoniously lifted out. At 6:15 pm, cocktails and music begin. Mai tais, beer, wine, standard bar drinks and soft drinks are available throughout the dinner hour. The musicians entertain throughout your meal with appealing melodies and humor. At 6:30 pm, the Luau begins. Tables are dismissed one at a time to go through the line of international foods. |

Finally, at 8:00 pm, the International Pageant begins at the Lagoon Amphitheatre. The hypnotic presentation begins with the traditional blowing of the conch shell, and torch lighting. Then dramatically, Pele, Goddess of Fire and Volcano, emerges out of the darkness from atop a lava flowing mountain, to tell her story. The dances that follow acknowledge all the Golden People of Hawaii, including dances from Tahiti, Hawaii, China, Japan, Philippines, New Zealand and Samoa. Gates open at 7:30 pm for visitors wishing to enjoy the spectacular show, without the glorious luau dinner and stroll through the grounds.
